Will I be automatically approved?
Unfortunatly no. Making Mermaids has a limited number of positions open in our professional mermaiding team. Selected mermaids and mermen are the best in New Zealand and undergo a competitive selection process each year. Whilst we invite open applications, selection is not guaranteed.
Am I eligible?
Our listed mermaids are limited to qualified SCUBA Divers, freedivers and certified mermaids with a minimum qualification of advanced in any of these disciplines. For qualified SCUBA divers, a conversion course in freediving or mermaiding may be required.
What does it cost?
Joining Making Mermaids as a professional mermaid costs nothing. It is, however, necessary that all mermaids have access to, or own, professional mermaid equipment necessary for performing at events. This includes tail, accessories, and transport.
Do I need mer-kit for gigs?
As a professional mermaid, you will need specialised equipment to provide services to clients, this includes tails, accessories and personal transport. If selected as a professional mermaid at Making Mermaids, you are eligible to purchase professional-grade mermaid kits at cost price.
What type of events can I host?
Professional mermaids can choose what types of events they partake in from kids’ birthdays to performing on television and film. When you apply to join our professional team you can determine what type of events you want to be available to be hired on. Who can become a professional mermaid?
Anyone with a love and passion for the ocean and wants to explore the world of becoming a professional mermaid, merman and merkid. For safety and security purposes, Making Mermaids only considers experienced and qualified mermaids, freedivers and SCUBA divers to join our professional team.
